Polish President Andrzej Duda said on Saturday he sees no other power in the world than the U.S. that could stop Russian aggression on Ukraine.
“In my personal opinion, if anyone is in the position to achieve an end to this war then it is the United States, they have the potential to achieve this. No one else,” Duda told reporters speaking at an airport in Warsaw.
Duda’s comments follow an extraordinary public spat on Friday between Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House over the war with Russia, with Trump threatening to withdraw support for Ukraine and telling Zelenskyy that “he is gambling with World War Three.”
“Volodymyr Zelenskyy should return to the negotiating table [with the U.S.] he should sit down calmly at the table and negotiate a solution which will make Ukraine safe,” the Polish president said.
He added that Poland will continue supporting the Ukrainian president in achieving peace as it is in Poland’s interest that the war in Ukraine ends, and “that it ends in such a way that Russia cannot attack anyone else.”
“We are also very much relying on this peace,” Duda added.
The Polish president is departing to the U.S. to take part in a United Nations General Assembly session as well as hold meetings with the Polish-American community.
