A U.S.-based businesswoman and influencer is looking to buy struggling low division Polish football club Lechia Gdańsk in order to restore its ‘greatness’.
Polish-born Kinga Strogoff who emigrated to the States to pursue the American dream, said she now wants to take over the ailing club after hearing about its financial woes, transfer ban and fans’ calls for new ownership.
The 43-year-old who plans to bring in football experts and long-term investors to revitalize the club told Polish football website iGol.pl: “Lechia’s collapse breaks my heart. It’s one of Poland’s biggest football centers.
“With the right investment and management, we can restore its greatness. Lechia has the potential to be the third-largest club in Poland in terms of revenue and fan base.”
Based in tourist resort of Gdańsk, the club which is currently 17th in the Ekstraklasa league is owned by Swiss entrepreneur Paolo Urfer.
He is reportedly considering selling the club but has been allegedly stalling.
Strogoff said: “We reached out in October 2024 with an investment offer. No response.
“In December, he was willing to talk but later changed his mind and doesn’t intend to sell before summer.”
She added: “For me, there is nothing more important than building a lasting legacy, and Lechia Gdańsk fits that vision very well.
“The possibilities are phenomenal when we add the right investment group together with the management team. This means bringing in people with experience in running elite football clubs.
“It also means bringing in investors who understand that football is not a quick business. It is a sport that requires long-term goals and a solid strategy.
“Make Lechia Great Again means bringing the club back to its Polish roots and standing up for what is important to us: a strong core, values and victory!”
