Poland’s two remaining clubs in European competition, Legia Warsaw and Jagiellonia Białystok, have drawn Norwegian’s Molde and Belgian’s Cercle Brugge respectively, in the last 16 of the Europa Conference League.

The draw was made at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland. The ties will be played over two legs, the first of which will take place on March 6, with Legia travelling to Norway and Jagiellonia facing the Belgians on home turf.

Legia cemented their place in the draw in December, having finished in the group phase’s top eight. Despite a good string of results, Jagiellonia narrowly missed out on automatic qualification and had to play in a two-legged play-off round.

The club from the northeast comfortably saw off Serbian side Backa Topola, beating them 3-1 in both legs.

The Polish clubs will fancy their chances of progressing. Jagiellonia comfortably beat Legia’s upcoming rivals Molde (3-0) in the league phase. Despite finishing in the top eight of the Conference League, Cercle Brugge have been having a miserable season domestically, currently languishing in the Belgian league’s relegation zone.

The teams already know who they will face if they manage to advance beyond the last 16 and both Polish outfits have potentially daunting prospects.

Goncalo Feio's men will face FC Copenhagen or tournament favorites Chelsea. While Adrian Siemieniec’s side would be up against Real Betis or Vitoria Guimaraes, who are the bookmakers’ third and fourth favorites.

This year’s Conference League holds a little more significance than previous years for Polish clubs as the final will be played in the western city of Wrocław on May 28.
