EU ministers met in Poland on Thursday for a conference devoted to the future of work in the digital age.
The event was organized as part of Poland’s presidency of the EU Council, which started last month.
“Future of labour in a digital Europe” is being staged in the port city of Gdańsk by the labor ministry and is intended to showcase the Polish EU presidency’s priorities in terms of the digital transition.
The two-day event started with a roundtable discussion on the impact of evolution and AI on the world of work. On Friday, two parallel workshops are planned, focussing on the social economy and people with disabilities.
There will also be a session on the ‘silver transition’ affecting the 50-plus generation in the digital workplace.
Labour Minister Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk addressed attendees in a pre-recorded speech on Thursday in which she highlighted the leading role of Gdańsk in Central Europe’s European journey.
It was in the port city that the Solidarity trade union sprang up during the communist years, paving the way for Poland’s democratic transition and the domino effect that led to the fall of the Berlin Wall.
