A groundbreaking new theater venue is set to open in Warsaw next month at the final station of the city’s M2 metro line.

The Metro Stage, developed by the Nieco Kultury Foundation, will be the first of its kind in the world, integrating a performing arts space within a metro station.

“We were looking for a place where actors we regularly collaborate with, as well as informal theater groups, could rehearse,” Kamil Obara, president of the Nieco Kultury Foundation, told local broadcaster tvnwarszawa.pl.

“Renting a hall or stage in a traditional theater is costly for them. That’s why we want to create a space where rehearsals can take place, culminating in full performances,” he added.

Spanning over 200 square meters, the Metro Stage will include a stage, seating for 70 spectators, technical facilities, and a small foyer with coffee tables.

The venue will feature a varied program, offering performances for children, young people and adults, as well as recitals, concerts and poetry evenings.

“The idea is for this place to be lively from morning until late at night, seven days a week,” Obara said.
