Warsaw's E. Wedel Chocolate Factory Museum has picked up a first prize at the prestigious German Design Award 2025.

The museum, which opened in September 2024 and charts the history of Poland’s most famous chocolate company, offers visitors a "multi-sensory engagement, and people are not only encouraged to look and learn, but also to touch, taste, and even create their own chocolate," says the museum's website.

But it is the museum’s signs that guide people around the facility that have been recognized by the German Design Award, coming first in the Signage and Wayfinding category.

The jury praised the stylish and creative illustrative plaques in the museum by Polish designer Anna Nowokuńska on behalf of Warsaw-based Studio Blisko, the newspaper Rzeczpospolita reported.

Nowokuńska's designs were appreciated for their apt choice of color and referencing of E.Wedel's products, such as chocolates and pralines.

Nowokuńska created child-friendly and aesthetically pleasing signs, fitting given that most visitors are youngsters. The jury said the visual guides, with Polish and English inscriptions, were clear and instructive.

It added: "The navigation inside the building and the information boards cleverly use symbols from the world of chocolate, so you can move around the museum intuitively."

The German Design Award is an international competition that is respected by the architecture and design industry and organized by the German Design Council. The awards recognize architecture, interior design, furniture, products, and visual communication.
