The U.K. has now given Ukraine 500,000 rounds of artillery ammunition, valued at more than £1 billion (€1.2 billion), the British Ministry of Defence announced
In total, the U.K. has now provided €5.4 billion in overall military aid to Ukraine.
Military support for Ukraine by Britain and other European countries has come under increasing scrutiny of late owing to signs from the Trump administration that it expects Europe to take on more of the responsibility for both Ukrainian and regional security.
“2025 is the critical year for the war in Ukraine. Ukrainians continue to fight with huge courage—military and civilians alike, and their bravery—fused with our support—has proved a lethal combination,” John Healey, the British defense minister, said at a meeting of the 26th Ukraine Defense Contact Group in Brussels on Wednesday.
“Speaking as a European defense minister, we know our responsibilities. We are doing more of the heavy lifting and sharing more of the burden.
“While Russia is weakened, it remains undeniably dangerous. We must step up further—and secure peace through strength—together,” he added.
The U.K. has also rolled out a new €180 million military aid package, which includes drones, modernized tanks, armored vehicles and air defense systems, UK Defence Journal reported.
The package includes thousands of drones, with over 10,000 set to be delivered by the U.K. by next month.
Air defense equipment to support more than 100 Ukrainian air defense teams, achieving a 90% success rate against Russian kamikaze drones.
There will also be 15 Gravehawk long-range precision strike systems, jointly provided by the U.K. and Denmark.
In spring the British will send Ukraine more than 50 armored and protective vehicles, including modernized T-72 tanks.
To ensure Ukraine’s military equipment remains operational, the U.K. has introduced €72 million in maintenance contracts for rapid frontline repairs.
British company Babcock won a multi-million-pound contract to train Ukrainian personnel in maintaining Challenger 2 tanks, self-propelled artillery and combat reconnaissance vehicles inside Ukraine, UK Defence Journal reported.
BAE Systems has won a €17 million contract, funded by Sweden, to repair Swedish-donated Archer artillery systems in Ukraine, in partnership with IT academy AMS.
Healey encouraged allies, ahead of the NATO Defence Ministerial meeting, to increase support and provide Ukraine with the firepower needed to defeat Russia.
