Two Russian colonels have mysteriously fallen from upper-floor windows, with one dead and the other seriously injured, reports said.

Colonel Alexey Zubkov, a forensic investigation specialist, is fighting for his life after plunging 12 meters from a bathroom window, the UK’s MailOnline reported, citing Telegram channel VChK-OGPU.

It added that Zubkov, who heads a department of the Russian Investigative Committee focused on studying digital information, was “conscious” after the incident but could not explain how he fell.

Another senior official, 56-year-old Artur Pryakhin – an ex-police colonel now working for an anti-monopoly agency – died after plummeting from a fifth-floor window in Petrozavodsk, capital of the western region of Karelia, the Mail reported.

Authorities are now said to be investigating Pryakhin’s death which, according to official media outlets, was the result of suicide.

Pryakhin is the latest in a long string of mysterious deaths of leading Russian figures since Putin launched his war on Ukraine.

These include the chairman of Lukoil, Ravil Maganov, who died after falling from a sixth-floor window at Moscow's Central Clinical Hospital in 2022.

The following year Marina Yankina, head of the financial support department at the Russian Defense Ministry’s Western Military District, was found dead after falling 160 feet from a 16th-floor window in St. Petersburg.

In October 2024, former Yukos executive Mikhail Rogachev also died after falling from the tenth-floor window of his Moscow apartment.

Rogachev had once been a senior vice president at Yukos, an oil giant dismantled under pressure from President Putin's government.
