Ukraine’s ministry of defense approved the use of 130 new weapons and military equipment samples in January this year alone, of which approximately 100 were produced domestically, the ministry’s press service reported citing a deputy minister.

Brigadier General Anatolii Klochko, a Ukrainian deputy defense minister, said that the high intensity of combat operations requires the soldiers on the frontlines to be provided with a broader range of weapons.

He said: “There is a need for more innovative strike capabilities to expand the operational capacity of our warriors on the battlefield. Domestic weapon manufacturers quickly address contemporary demands, increase production volumes, and create state-of-the-art weapon models.

“Notable progress is particularly evident in developing unmanned systems of various types and purposes — air, ground, sea, and electronic warfare,” said Klochko.

As hintend by the deputy minister, the largest single category of newly approved systems, amounting to almost 40, are unmanned aerial vehicles. This category also includes fiber-optic-controlled drones, which are immune to jamming.

More than 20 types of military vehicles for various purposes have also been approved.

Additionally, the list includes ammunition, rear-echelon equipment, and ground-based robotic systems, and equipment for chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN), as well as engineering units.

As for the foreign weapons approved, the list includes various European- and U.S.-manufactured small arms, grenade launchers, specialized vehicles, and other equipment.
