Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has denied suggestions that he struggled to get through security to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s victory rally.
The next day, Ukrainian-American journalist Oliya Scootercaster posted a clip from a YouTube video on social media platform X showing Morawiecki talking with U.S. National Guardsmen, trying to get through a blocked-off area.
Scootercaster wrote: “Mateusz Morawiecki, former prime minister of Poland, stands outside DC Trump rally at Capital One Arena, attempting to convince National Guard of who he is by showing them his Wikipedia page.”
She added that Morawiecki was probably let through, but she was not sure.
The video
Morawiecki, a right-winger who was the prime minister from 2017 to 2023, was captured on video showing something on his smartphone to guardsmen stationed at the entrance to the restricted area.
U.S. military officials then asked Morawiecki if he had any form of identification or badge. One of them addressed another guardsman who approached, saying: “They [Morawiecki and his team] have no badge, no nothing.”
He asked Morawiecki: “Do you have any important contact?”
In response, Morawiecki appeared to begin asking for directions.
A guardsman replied: “The directions, they don’t account for the fact that that’s blocked off, Secret Service only.”
Moments later the video shows Connor McGregor, a mixed martial arts star from Ireland along with his team, being escorted through by his security.

Lost in DC
Scootercaster’s version of events was denied, first by a former spokesman to the Polish ex-prime minister, Piotr Müller, and then by Morawiecki himself.
In a post on X, Müller wrote: “Yesterday Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki was going to appointments, including interviews. Not to any rally.”
He added: “Half of Washington is closed, so he asked a guard for directions, as traffic was rearranged.”
Morawiecki, meanwhile, said in a video posted on X that he had been heading for an interview on foot as “Washington is completely blocked”. He approached the soldiers asking for directions, and introduced himself.
After a short conversation the guardsmen directed him towards the interview destinations around the blocked area, he said.
“I finally arrived at this interview. I gave the interview. And this is the whole truth about what happened in Washington yesterday. The rest is manipulation,” Morawiecki said.
