Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Montenegro’s capital on Thursday to express anger at the authorities’ response to a mass shooting on January 1.

The protesters demonstrated against what they see as a lack of action by officials after the shooting in which a gunman killed 12 people and seriously wounded four.

Forty-five-year-old Aco Martinović went on the rampage on New Year’s Day after drinking heavily in the small town of Cetinje and managed to evade the police for many hours.

He shot and killed himself the next day.

Many Montenegrins are angry over what they see as slow reform of an understaffed and under-resourced police force and bureaucratic and political wrangling within the government.
