Authorities in the Polish city of Poznań have sealed off part of the center after finding a dead bat infected with rabies.

The animal was found near the city’s trendy Jeżyce district, a bustling area known for its vibrant culture and residential charm.

In response, officials have declared a high-risk zone, urging residents to stay alert and follow new safety measures to prevent the spread of the deadly disease.

Rabies, a viral disease that can infect both humans and animals, is nearly always fatal if left untreated.

The virus most often spreads through bites from an infected animal, but it can also spread if the animal's saliva gets into a person's eyes, nose, mouth, or a scratch.

In the newly-established high-risk zone, events involving animals—such as fairs, exhibitions, and pet shows—are temporarily banned.

Movement of unvaccinated dogs and cats in and out of the area is also prohibited, with officials requiring immediate rabies vaccinations for unvaccinated dogs.

Owners of outdoor cats are strongly encouraged to vaccinate their pets as an added precaution.

If a resident finds a dead animal in the area, they are instructed not to touch it and to report it immediately to the Poznań City Guard.
