Poland’s Aleksandra Malcewska has claimed the 2024 European Women’s Blitz Chess Championship in Monaco, finishing with an impressive 10.5 points from 13 rounds, including 10 wins, one draw, and two losses.

Malcewska, ranked 12th in the tournament, beat higher-rated competitors from Ukraine, Switzerland, Georgia and Germany. She also defeated her fellow countrywoman Michalina Rudzińska, who finished sixth with nine points.

Malcewska, who previously represented Russia, has competed for Poland since 2022.

So far, she earned a silver medal at the 2022 European Blitz Championship in Katowice, won bronze at the 2023 European Classical Chess Championship and gold in the 2022 European Rapid Chess Championship. In December 2022, Malcewska reached the round of 16 at the World Blitz Championship in New York, ultimately finishing 12th.

Blitz chess games are characterized by their rapid pace, with players allowed just three minutes per game, plus two seconds for each move.

The Monaco tournament featured 122 participants competing for a prize pool of €15,200. The competition continues over the weekend with the European Rapid Chess Championship scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
