A retired Polish couple are facing up to 20 years in jail after attempting to smuggle €940,000 worth of marijuana into Poland from Spain.
The 57-year-old and 71-year-old were arrested after police stopped their campervan attached to a caravan on the outskirts of the Polish capital Warsaw where they found 60kg of the drug hidden inside.
Police spokesman Jakub Pacyniak said: “After a detailed check, it turned out that the walls of the caravan were filled with bags of marijuana.”
He added that the couple said that they had been traveling around Spain and that someone had hidden the drugs inside without their knowledge.
The pair, who have now been put into three months detention, have been charged with "transporting drugs to Poland with the intention of introducing them into circulation".
