Polish volleyball player Tomasz Fornal has been named second best in the world by a volleyball website in the annual ranking.

The website Volleyball World published a list of the top 10 players from both the men and women’s game.
Fornal was instrumental in Poland’s run to the Olympic final at the 2024 Paris Games, in which they picked up a silver medal. He also helped Poland to third place in the Nations League.

He won his second consecutive Polish championship with Jastrzębski Węgiel and played a major part in their run to the Champions League final.

“A unique player! This amazing outside hitter, part of the VNL2024 Dream Team, helped Poland end their 48-year Olympic drought with a silver at Paris2024,” Volleyball World wrote on X. The website noted how Fornal’s occasional absence from the team due to minor injuries was keenly felt. They described him as “An exceptional athlete, continuing the glorious tradition of Polish volleyball."

The 27-year-old is one of three Poles included in the ranking. Joanna Wołosz was ranked 5th in the women’s game, while the Cuban-born Polish representative, Wilfredo Leon, was ranked 9th.

French outside hitter and two-time Olympic champion Trevor Clevenot was declared the world’s number one. Paola Egonu, representing Italy, was named MVP at the Paris Games and took the number one spot for women.
