Poland’s ministry of defense has announced plans to increase troop numbers in 2025 by a total of around 23,000.
A deputy defense minister said the total number recruited would be much higher due to existing personnel retiring.
Stanisław Wziątek said the new recruits would be trained by the Voluntary Labor Corps (OHP), a state institution describing itself as “working to prevent the social exclusion of young people.”
The OHP is currently training around 30,000 young people in 80 professions.
Wziątek said the ministry had made arrangements for the OHP to train recruits in professions specifically needed by the armed forces.
At the end of 2024, the Polish armed forces numbered around 200,000 personnel.
