The Polish city of Katowice will co-host two major European handball tournaments in 2030 and 2032.

Hosting rights for the 2030 Men’s European Championship will be shared between Poland, Denmark and the Czech Republic, while the 2032 edition of the Women’s Championship will be co-organized by Poland, Germany and Denmark.

The announcement was made on Saturday at a meeting of the European Handball Federation in Vienna.
Katowice’s iconic Spodek Arena, which has a capacity of 11,000, will be the venue for the matches hosted by Poland during the tournaments.

The men’s championship, scheduled for January 10–27 2030, will see group stage and main round games held in the southern Polish city, with the other group stage fixtures taking place in the Czech capital Prague and in Herning in central Denmark. Prague will host the final weekend.

The group stage games of the women’s championship, set for 1-19 December 2032, will also be held in Katowice, with the later rounds played in venues in Germany and Denmark, which are yet to be confirmed.

Sławomir Szmal, president of the Polish Handball Association (ZPRP), said that “this is a unique chance to popularize handball, especially among children and youth. It also provides our players with the opportunity to perform in front of a home crowd during key tournaments.”

In addition to raising the profile of handball, the ZPRP sees these tournaments as a platform to build partnerships, improve infrastructure, and inspire greater participation in sports. The events also aim to strengthen Poland’s standing as a host of major international competitions.

Poland has a strong history of hosting handball tournaments, including the Men’s European Championship in 2016 and the Men’s World Championship in 2023.

Forthcoming events in Poland include the Under-21 Men’s World Championship in 2025, the Women’s European Championship in 2026 (co-hosted with the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, and Turkey), and the Women’s World Championship in 2031 (with the Czech Republic).
