Legendary Polish striker Robert Lewandowski etched his name into football history on Tuesday by becoming only the third player to score 100 goals in the UEFA Champions League.

The milestone came during Barcelona’s 3-0 victory over French side Brest, with the 36-year-old opening the scoring in the 10th minute by calmly converting a penalty after being fouled by Brest goalkeeper Marco Bizot.

He then sealed the win with his 101st Champions League goal in injury time, slotting a precise finish into the far corner.

The feat places him in elite company, joining Cristiano Ronaldo (140 goals) and Lionel Messi (129 goals) as the only players to achieve a century of goals in Europe’s premier club competition. Speaking after the match, Lewandowski said: “I'm very content, very happy. Sometimes I didn't believe I would reach this impressive figure in the Champions League.

“Now I'm in good company with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.”
Lewandowski’s Champions League tally spans three clubs: 69 goals for Bayern Munich, 17 for Borussia Dortmund and now 14 for Barcelona.

His versatility and consistency have been hallmarks of his career, making him one of the most feared strikers of his generation.

Barcelona’s win propelled them to second in the 36-team group stage standings with 12 points from five matches, keeping their Champions League campaign on course.

While Lewandowski’s century is monumental, it’s unlikely to be matched anytime soon.

Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé, with 49 goals, and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, with 46, are the closest active players, but they still have a long way to go to catch the Polish star.

With Ronaldo and Messi no longer playing in Europe, Lewandowski remains the last active player of the trio still adding to his tally in the competition.
