A Polish documentary following the lives of young pianists competing in Warsaw’s Chopin Competition has won an International Emmy Award for Artistic Programming.
Widely regarded as one of the most prestigious classical music events, the Chopin contest has been held every five years in Warsaw since 1955 and has helped launch the careers of numerous pianists, including recent winners Rafał Blechacz and Bruce Liu.
While the competition offers unparalleled opportunities for musicians, it also comes with intense pressure, with one contestant in the film describing it as the "Olympics of piano."
The Emmy Awards, presented by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (IATAS), recognize outstanding productions made outside the United States.
This year’s awards featured 56 nominations from 21 countries across 14 categories. British actor Timothy Spall was named best actor for his role in The Sixth Commandment, while Thai actress Aokbab-Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying won best actress for her performance in Hunger. The International Emmy® for Arts Programming goes to “Pianoforte”
