The Polish embassy in Kyiv is operating normally, despite the U.S. State Department warning that the American mission in the Ukrainian capital has received information about a “potentially significant” air attack.
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski described the decision to remain in Kyiv as “one of the visible signs” of Warsaw’s solidarity with Ukraine.
“Despite the increased risk of Russian attacks on Kyiv, our diplomats, as before, remain on duty,” Sikorski wrote on the X platform.
The United States shut its embassy in Kyiv on Wednesday and told its citizens in Ukraine to be ready to swiftly seek shelter.
However, the head of the Polish embassy, Piotr Łukasiewicz, told state news agency PAP that his diplomatic post was operating normally.
“We take these warnings very seriously, but I am on site and some of the staff are on site in secure rooms,” Łukasiewicz said.
“We are still working in war conditions. This is happening today, it happened yesterday, and it will continue to happen as long as this criminal Russian aggression against civilian objects and Ukrainian cities continues,” he added.
