Donald Trump has claimed victory in the U.S. election, telling supporters that his re-election heralded “a golden age of America”.

Stepping onstage at his election watch party in West Palm Beach, Florida, Trump said that the evening had been “a magnificent victory for the American people,” while promising “to fix everything.”

Though the final result has yet to be made official, Trump appeared to be on the threshold of a second presidency after winning the hotly contested state of Pennsylvania.

“I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honor of being elected your 47th president and your 45th president, and every citizen, I will fight for you, for your family and your future,” said Trump.

He added: “Every single day, I will be fighting for you and with every breath in my body, I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe and prosperous America that our children deserve and that you deserve. This will truly be the golden age of America.”

Appearing onstage alongside his wife, campaign team and running mate JD Vance, Trump told jubilant supporters that under his leadership “the country would heal” and “I think that we just witnessed the greatest political comeback in the history of the United States of America.”

As things stand, the Republicans still need to win a handful more of electoral seats before victory is confirmed.
