A Polish paraglider has been left stranded in India’s northern mountain range following a mid-air collision with another paraglider, regional authorities have said.

Andrzej Babiński crash-landed in the Himalayan mountains in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday, hours ahead of the Paragliding World Cup 2024.

Authorities said that efforts to airlift him to safety on Monday failed due to rough terrain but that a search party was on its way by land and Babiński is in touch with the local administration.

The incident is the latest in a series of accidents that last week saw several international paragliders in the region either injured or killed.

On Tuesday, a Belgian paraglider died after colliding mid-air with another paraglider, causing his parachute to fail to open.

Strong winds on Wednesday caused Dita Misurcova, a paraglider, to lose control of her glider and crash into the mountains.

Australian sportsman David Snowden sprained his leg shortly before takeoff in Sunday’s Paragliding World Cup 2024.
