Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has claimed that no one has done more for Poland than him.

In an interview with Polish right-wing broadcaster Telewizja Republika aired on Monday, Trump said: “There’s nobody that’s ever done more for the Polish people than I have.”

He did not go into detail about what he had done to help Poland which, fearful of Russia, its giant eastern neighbor, has embarked on a military spending spree in recent years, buying F-35 aircraft, Patriot missile systems and Abrams battle tanks from the U.S.

Poland joined the NATO military alliance in 1999, when Democrat Bill Clinton was U.S. president.

Trump said he hoped he would win the Polish-American vote in the November 5 U.S. presidential election.

Voters of Polish descent have become highly sought after in the final weeks of the race between Trump, the Republican candidate, and Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee.
