Polish coach Michał Probierz has included three uncapped players in his squad for October’s Nations League matches in Warsaw against Portugal and Croatia.

The trio making the cut are Michael Ameyaw, Maxi Oyedele, and Mateusz Skrzypczak.

Meanwhile, Bartosz Kapustka has earned a recall despite having not made an international appearance since 2016.

Probierz opted to announce the squad early, a week prior to the training camp beginning.

Jagiellonia Białystok defender Skrzypczak and Raków Częstochowa midfielder Ameyaw were widely expected to earn a call-up following their promising starts to the season.
However, the call-up for Maxi Oyedele caught most people by surprise. The 19-year-old midfielder, a former Manchester United youth team player, currently plies his trade with Legia Warsaw.

But the youngster, born in England to a Polish mother and Nigerian father, has only played around 100 minutes in Poland’s top-tier Ekstraklasa league. Prior to joining Legia, he had only made 16 senior appearances on loan to fourth and fifth-tier teams in England.

Kapustka is a far more established figure, having earned 14 caps, scoring three goals, and impressing in moments at Euro 2016. The midfielder went on to join the then-Premier League champions Leicester City for £7.5 million.

But his career went into somewhat of a tailspin following his move. He failed to make a single Premier League appearance and lost his place in the Polish national squad.
After several loan moves, he permanently joined Legia in 2020 and initially struggled to rediscover the form that had made him a hot prospect. However, last season, particularly in the early stages of this, he appears to have rekindled the creative spark that persuaded Leicester to purchase him eight years ago.

A former Brighton player, Kacper Kozłowski, is also back in the picture after being left out in the cold for Probierz’s most recent squads. The Gaziantepspor midfielder has not made an international appearance for three years.

Adam Buksa and Mateusz Wieteska miss out due to injury, while Mateusz Bogusz, Mateusz Kowalczyk, and Bartosz Slisz have failed to make the cut. The latter's absence comes as somewhat of a surprise given that Slisz has featured in 10 of Poland’s last 12 matches.

Poland picked up three points from their first two Nations League matches in September, with a 3-2 win against Scotland and a 1-0 defeat to Croatia.

They will face Portugal on October 12 at the National Stadium in Warsaw, and three days later they will come up against the Croatians, again in the Polish capital.
