Polish tennis player Magdalena Fręch has advanced to the round of 16 in the WTA 1000 tournament in Bejing, beating Russia’s Diana Shnaider in the third round on Sunday.

Fręch, who is seeded 23rd in the tournament, beat the 12th-seeded Shnaider 0:6, 6:3, 6:4. In August, Shnaider ended Fręch's run in the WTA tournament in Toronto, defeating her in the round of 32.

The win in the China Open raised the 26-year-old from Łódź to 31st in the world rankings, the highest position of her career.

She now stands poised to achieve a prestigious top 30 place.

Her opponent in the round of 16 match on Tuesday has yet to be determined but will be either Shuai Zhang of China or Belgium’s Greete Minnen.

Minnen put Fręch out of this year’s U.S. open in the first round.

Earlier in September, Fręch won the first WTA championship of her career after beating Australia’s Olivia Gadecki in the final of the WTA 500 tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico.
