German club Borussia Dortmund organized a testimonial to properly bid farewell to former players, the ex-Polish internationals Kuba Błaszczykowski and Łukasz Piszczek on Saturday.
It was team Błaszczykowski versus team Piszczek at the Signal Iduna Park stadium with former Dortmund players, staff and well-known Polish players making up the teams and coaches.
The Poles involved included Kamil Grosicki, Jacek Krzynówek and Ebi Smolarek. There were appearances from current Dortmund head coach Nuri Şahin and former club captain Matts Hummels, while legendary coach Jurgen Klopp took charge of Błaszczykowski’s team.

With so many heroes from the past on display Dortmund fans tuned out in droves. A total of 81,365 fans watched Błaszczykowski's team edge out Piszczek’s 5-4, with last season’s Elstraklassa player of the year Grosicki scoring two goals.
Błaszczykowski and Piszczek were both substituted in the 90th minute to a standing ovation and the capacity crowd chanted their names in appreciation of their long service for the club.
Piszczek joined Borussia Dortmund in 2010 from Hertha Berlin. He played for BVB until 2021, making 382 appearances, scoring 19 goals and providing 64 assists. During that time, he won the German championship twice and the German Cup three times. Piszczek is currently Şahin’s assistant coach at Dortmund.
Błaszczykowski played for Borussia from 2007 to 2016, with a one-year break on loan to Fiorentina. He scored 32 goals and provided 52 assists.
