Poland’s medal count at the Paris Paralympic Games climbed to 19 on Saturday as Barbara Bieganowska-Zając captured gold in the 1500m T20 race and Maciej Lepiato claimed bronze in the T64 high jump.
The 43-year-old Bieganowska-Zając further cemented her legacy in the sport by winning her fourth consecutive Paralympic gold in the 1500m race, a streak she has maintained since the London Games in 2012.
Her impressive haul also includes gold in the 800m from Sydney (2000) and bronze in the 400m from Rio de Janeiro (2016).
After her victory in Paris, Bieganowska-Zając wasted no time in declaring her ambitions for the future, setting her sights on the Los Angeles Games in 2028, where she aims to break her own world record. Retirement, it seems, is not on the horizon.
“Believe me, age doesn’t weigh me down at all. It’s just a number, a date on the calendar. I’m still hungry for success, it’s never enough. I plan to go to Los Angeles for my sixth Paralympic medal,” she said confidently.
Following these successes, Poland’s medal count at the Paris Paralympics now stands at 19, including six golds, five silvers, and eight bronzes.
The Summer Paralympic Games in Paris will conclude on Sunday.
