The Ukrainian president has said his war-ravaged country needs “new energy” as he ordered the biggest government reshuffle since the start of the conflict with Russia.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said changes to the government are necessary to achieve the results required by Ukraine.
“We need new energy today, and these steps are related only to the strengthening of our state in different directions,” Zelenskyy told media on Wednesday.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba resigned earlier the same day, the highest-profile casualty so far of a major government reshuffle ordered by Zelenskyy at a crucial juncture in the 30-month war against Russia.
On Wednesday, the Ukrainian parliament accepted the resignations of a deputy prime minister, the strategic industries minister, and two other ministers, lawmakers said.
But the resignation of the foreign minister had not been considered, the lawmakers added on the Telegram messaging app after the parliamentary session ended for the day.
Russian forces are advancing in the east of Ukraine while Ukrainian troops have made a bold incursion into Russia’s Kursk region.
Moscow has intensified drone and missile attacks in recent weeks while Kyiv launched a mass drone attack on Russia’s energy infrastructure over the weekend.
On Tuesday, at least 50 people, including soldiers, were killed by two missiles in the central Ukrainian town of Poltava in the deadliest single attack of the war this year.
