Polish canoeists have taken gold and silver medals at the 2024 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
Jakub Stepun won a silver medal and later on Sunday morning Oleksii Koliadych won gold.
Koliadych, a Pole born in Ukraine, won the C1 200-meter canoe sprint, equaling his feat from two years ago and improved on the bronze he picked up a year ago.
The 26 year old impressively turned on the after burners in the final few hundred meters to finish almost half a second ahead of Spaniard Pablo Grana.
Stepun, who featured at the Olympics in Paris, narrowly missed out on gold in the 200m kayaking final. The 23-year-old, who set the early pace, was edged out on the finishing line by Portuguese Messias Baptista by just 0.07 seconds.
The World Championships in Uzbekistan includes only non-Olympic disciplines.
