Ukraine has launched “one of the largest” ever drone attacks on Moscow, the Russian authorities have said.
The Russian Defense Ministry said that at least 11 Ukrainian drones were downed by air defenses over the capital, and dozens were shot down across western Russia.
The attack on the capital came as fighting continued to rage in Ukraine and Russia, with both sides claiming to have made gains into enemy territory.
“This is one of the largest ever attempts to attack Moscow with drones,” Sergey Sobyanin, the mayor of Moscow, said on Wednesday morning, adding that no damage or casualties had been reported.
Ukrainian incursions continue
Meanwhile, Ukraine claimed it was continuing to push into Russia’s Kursk border region, with Kyiv's top general, Oleksandr Syrskyi, saying on Tuesday that Ukrainian forces had advanced 28 to 35 kilometers (17 to 22 miles) into the region, capturing over 93 settlements, or 1,263 square kilometers in total.
In response, Moscow has been reportedly forced to redeploy elements of its units from the frontlines in Ukraine to bolster defenses in Kursk.
According to Syrskyi, Russia has also sent additional troops to Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine, where fighting has intensified in recent weeks as Russian forces make rapid advances in the region.
