Robert Lewandowski's match-winning brace in Barcelona's 2-1 victory over Valencia not only secured a crucial win in the season’s opener but also marked another milestone in his road to becoming one of the club's all-time greats.

Since joining Barcelona, Lewandowski has quickly established himself as an indispensable player, not just for his goal-scoring prowess but also for his leadership on and off the pitch.

With his goals against Valencia, Lewandowski surpassed the legendary Johan Cruyff on Barcelona’s all-time scoring list. His two goals at Valencia's home stadium, Mestalla, drew widespread praise from the Spanish media. "Killer Lewy," headlined one of Spain’s most popular sports dailies – Mundo Deportivo, underscoring the Polish striker's lethal ability to deliver when it matters most. AS, another Spanish sports daily wrote: “Lewandowski ruled at Mestalla,” while one of the country’s most renowned newspapers La Vanguardia highlighted his role in leading a Barcelona to victory.

With every goal, Lewandowski comes closer to the pantheon of Barcelona legends. Surpassing an undisputable legend of Blaugrana, Johan Cruyff, who scored 61 goals for the club, elevated Lewandowski to the 42nd place on Barcelona's all-time scoring list. With only one goal separating him from the next spot, Lewandowski is on track to continue climbing the ranks, leaving a lasting imprint on the club’s history.

The partnership between Lewandowski and new coach Hansi Flick, who took over in May, has been instrumental in his recent success, Barcelona-based sports daily Sport reported.

The daily adds that under Flick’s guidance, Lewandowski is not just scoring goals but also mentoring the next generation of Barcelona talents, reinforcing his role as a leader within the squad.

While Lionel Messi’s record of 672 goals may remain out of reach, Lewandowski's ability to break records and lead by example makes him a vital part of Barcelona's ongoing history.
