Poland’s queen of clay, Iga Świątek, defeated Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in the third round of the Cincinnati Open, securing her place in the quarter-finals.
The No.1 seed, Świątek, took down the No.15 Kostyuk with a solid 6:2, 6:2 victory.
In the third round against Kostyuk, Świątek was dominant from start to finish, losing only four games throughout the match—two in each set.
The Cincinnati Open is Świątek’s first tournament since the Paris Olympics, where she clinched a bronze medal.
For many players, the Cincinnati event also serves as the final preparation before the last Grand Slam of the season, the U.S. Open, which starts on August 26.
In her previous match, Świątek battled through a tense encounter with France’s Varvara Gracheva, winning 6:0, 6:7 (8-10), 6:2. Despite losing her lead in the second set from 5:2, Swiatek managed to regain control and secure the win.Clinical 💪 pic.twitter.com/AlShnZfLKH
