In a decree signed on Friday, Alexander Lukashenko pardoned thirty individuals found guilty of taking part in protests.

This information was reported by the Telegram channel Pul Pervogo, which is managed by Lukashenko’s press service. The pardoned individuals, 14 women and 16 men, were convicted for “protest-related crimes.”

Although their names were not disclosed, portal Zerkalo reports that some of them are in poor health and that there are also elderly individuals among them.

The decree stated that all the pardoned individuals had accepted their guilt, showed genuine remorse for their actions, and pledged to live law-abiding lives.

“All of them admitted their guilt, sincerely expressed remorse for their actions, and committed to leading a law-abiding lifestyle. The Ministry of Internal Affairs, by order of the head of state, will monitor these commitments. The signed pardon decree is essentially an opportunity for these individuals to rehabilitate themselves before the state and society,” the official statement reads.

Zerkalo said that, based on information from the human rights organization Viasna, Belarus released 18 political prisoners on July 3 through amnesty or pardons.

Lukashenko still holds numerous political prisoners, including activists associated with Union of Poles in Belarus like Andrzej Poczobut, who has been held in a penal colony since February 2023
