Poland has signed a contract for 28 Kleszcz light armored reconnaissance vehicles (LOTR) for the Polish Army.

Costing 800 million zloty (€186 million), the 28 vehicles will be delivered between 2026 and 2028 and mark the start of a framework contract concluded in February for a further 286 carriers to be supplied to Polish forces between 2026 and 2035.

The Kleszcz is a 4×4 wheeled vehicle operated by a five-member crew and powered by diesel with more than 300 horsepower.

It has a maximum speed of 100 kilometers per hour (62 miles per hour) and features a NATO-standard ballistic and mine-resistant chassis.

Equipped with specialized armor, the Kleszcz also includes a laser radiation warning system, a remote-controlled weapons module, and a smoke grenade launcher.

The vehicles will be assigned to reconnaissance units of the Polish Land Forces, replacing the Soviet-era BRDM-2 armored vehicles.

During the agreement’s signing at the 1st Warsaw Armored Brigade on Wednesday, Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz described the vehicles as “the eyes and ears of the Polish Army.”

“Wherever we [the government] can, we invest in Poland’s arms industry,” he said, adding that the current Polish government is “fulfilling its obligations.” The arrival of the Kleszcz is the result of a collaboration with a consortium consisting of AMZ KUTNO, the Military Communications Institute, the Military Institute of Armament Technology (MIAT), and the Military Institute of Chemistry and Radiometry (MICR).
