Ukraine’s national border-control authority has said it has observed no signs of Belarusian military deployments close to its borders after Belarus’s defense ministry released footage of tanks being loaded onto trains.

The release of the video material came in the wake of accusations by the Belarusian government that Ukraine had violated its airspace on Friday. President Alexander Lukashenko said his country’s air defenses had shot down several of “about a dozen” Ukrainian drones he said had breached Belarusian airspace as a result of an ongoing Ukrainian incursion into Russia’s Kursk region.

On Saturday, Belarus said it had sent additional troops to secure its border with Ukraine.

However, on Sunday, a spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine said the situation on the Belarusian border was “under control” and that they had “observed no additional forces being brought to the border by Belarus.”

The spokesman attributed the Belarusian government’s actions to an attempt to “exert informational influence,” and pressure to remain subservient to Russia.

Kyiv’s chargé d’affaires in Minsk was also summoned to the foreign ministry and told to ensure there were no repeats of Friday’s alleged violations. He was also told that a repeat of the episode may lead to Minsk reassessing whether a Ukrainian diplomatic mission in the country was “appropriate,” Reuters reported.
