Slovakian mountain rescuers saved the life of a 14-year-old boy on Sunday after he went missing while trying to make a solo attempt on the highest peak in the Tatra Mountains.

The young climber, whose identity has not been disclosed, set out to climb the 2,503-meter Mount Rysy in the afternoon. However, his parents contacted the Slovak Mountain Rescue Service after losing contact with him.

The Slovakian Fire Rescue Service and the Helicopter Rescue Medical Service launched a search-and-rescue mission.

Aided by the boy’s parents, who had managed to reestablish communication and discovered he was stranded on one of Rysy’s ridges, the rescuers winched the teen to safety.

The youngster was transported by air to Starý Smokovec, where he was reunited with his parents.
