NATO has begun the process to dismiss Brig. Gen. Artur Jakubczyk from its Military Staff following allegations of favoritism, homophobia and racism, Poland’s defense ministry spokesman has reported.

Jakubczyk is one of eight Polish generals currently in NATO structures.

“Unfortunately, this is another disastrous personnel decision by our predecessors,” the ministry spokesman wrote on X, referring to the previous, right-wing, United Right coalition government.

General Jakubczyk’s tenure is reportedly being shortened due to irregularities in a competition for a senior intelligence policy role at NATO’s Headquarters, where Jakubczyk allegedly favored a Polish candidate.

The allegations also include discriminatory behavior. The Polish Ministry of Defense confirmed the dismissal procedure following reports by Polish daily Rzeczpospolita.

According to Rzeczpospolita, this incident adds to recent setbacks for Polish officials failing to secure high-level NATO roles despite being top candidates.

During his military career Artur Jakubczyk was deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya, serving at NATO's intelligence center in Naples. He commanded the 2nd Hrubieszów Reconnaissance Regiment and was promoted to brigadier general in 2019.
