Polish teenager Tymon Kolasiński won the 3x3, 4x4, 5x5, and 6x6 competitions at the 2024 Rubik's WCA European Championship.
The championship was held in Pamplona, Spain at the end of July. Kolasinski’s victory means he maintains his title as European Rubik's Cube Champion with a solving time of 5.92 seconds.
The nineteen-year-old Pole spoke about the rise in popularity of his sport. He noted that while activities like skateboarding, breakdancing, and surfing are more physical, mental effort should also be considered physical effort since “you are using your brain which is part of your body.”
Kolasiński mentioned that a new generation of young Chinese cubers is emerging as older cubers move on to take jobs.
“I think the current generation of cubers in China, if they decide to do it professionally, they might be doing it until they are 30 or 40 years old,” he said.
The championship attracted 1,200 participants, saw a world record, four European records, and two African records broken, according to Pamplona City Hall’s website.
