Russia has begun the third stage of a “tactical nuclear weapons deployment” exercise, the Russian defense ministry said on Wednesday.
The first stage took place in May and the second in June, when Russian units were joined by soldiers from allied Belarus.
“In accordance with the decision of the president of the Russian Federation, the third stage of the exercise of non-strategic nuclear forces has begun,” the defense ministry in Moscow said in a statement on the Telegram platform.
“In accordance with the decision of the president of the Russian Federation, the third stage of the exercise of non-strategic nuclear forces has begun,” the defense ministry in Moscow said in a statement on the Telegram platform.
“The current stage of the exercise is aimed at maintaining the readiness of personnel and equipment of units of combat use of non-strategic nuclear weapons of Russia to perform combat missions,” the ministry added.
This stage is intended to maintain Russian military personnel and hardware of non-strategic nuclear units ready to perform the missions assigned. Soldiers from Russia’s southern and central military districts will practice placing dummy warheads in operational and tactical Iskander-M missile systems and covertly transporting them to a pre-agreed missile launch site.
Russia says the United States and its European allies are pushing the world to the brink of a nuclear confrontation by transferring billions of dollars worth of weapons to Ukraine, which are used to attack Russian territory, Reuters reported.
