Iga Świątek cruised into the Olympic quarter finals of the Women’s Singles after beating China’s Xiyu Wang in straight sets.

The world No. 1 booked her passage to the next round with an uncomplicated 6:3, 6:4 win, breezing past Xiyu, who finished the match with her thigh bandaged.

Świątek has bounced back strongly after crashing out of Wimbledon in the third round, swatting past her previous opponents in Paris, the Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu, and Frenchwoman Diane Parry.

Next up, the Pole will face world No. 9 Danielle Collins of the US tomorrow.

On a bright night for Polish sport, Poland bagged its second medal of the tournament after earning bronze in the women’s team épée. Beating China in the most thrilling of circumstances, a podium finish was secured after Aleksandra Jarecka scored the winning point in overtime having first equalized with just two seconds left to run.
