Klaudia Zwolińska opened Poland's medal account at the Paris Olympics 2024 as she came second in the K-1 canoe slalom event on Sunday.
The Polish canoeist clocked 97,53s in the final round and overtook Kimberly Woods from the U.K. who finished third. Australia's Jessica Fox was beyond everyone else's reach and outclassed her opponents, beating the difficult route in 96,08s.
Olympic champion from Tokyo, Germany's Ricarda Funk, succumbed to pressure and made a major mistake on way through one of the gates and was landed a 50-second penalty, ultimately finishing ninth.
This is the first Olympic medal for 25-year-old Zwolińska, and the first one for Poland in Paris. She has been in a superb form recently, having won a bronze World Championships medal and gold at the European championships in K-1 events.
