Tennis champ Magda Linette has beaten Magdalena Fręch at the WTA 250 tournament, which for the first time ever saw two Polish players in the final.

In the historic event in Prague, fourth-seeded Linette slammed her way to victory against the sixth-seeded Fręch to win a decisive 6-2, 6-1 and secure her third career title.
Both Linette and Fręch were on top of their game throughout the tournament. Linette clinched her spot in the final by defeating the top-seeded Czech, Linda Nosková, in a thrilling semifinal match that ended 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2).

Fręch advanced to the final after a hard-fought match against Czech player Laura Samson, who retired after Fręch was leading 3-6, 6-0, 4-2.

However, as the final concluded on Friday, both Polish players are now facing a logistical dilemma. With their first-round matches at the Olympic Games scheduled for Sunday, they had limited time to travel from Prague to Paris and will not make it to the flight before France closes its air zone over the capital city ahead of the event’s opening ceremony.

Making a tongue-in-cheek post on social media, Linette said: “Hey, what do you do when you don’t have friends with a private jet and the WTA postpones your final match, so you have no chance of flying to Paris for the Olympics before the air zone is closed?”

Tagging in Fręch, she added: “We’re waiting for your tips.” Unlike other athletes, including tennis world number one Iga Świątek, who opted out of tournaments the week before the Olympics to rest and prepare, Linette and Fręch chose to compete in Prague as a strategic warm-up for the larger competition ahead.

The Olympic tennis competition will take place on the Roland Garros courts, where the French Open is played annually.
