Stargazers in Poland are in for a treat this weekend as a July supermoon is set to light up the skies.

The so-called ‘Buck Moon’ is expected to reach its fullest phase on Sunday at 12:31 a.m. local time (10:31 p.m. GMT) and will look bigger and brighter than an ordinary full moon.

This is because the moon will be at its closest point to Earth at 361,934 km, which is around 22,466 km closer than usual.

According to Live Science, Native American tribes named July’s full moon the Buck Moon in reference to the time of year when male deer begin growing new antlers.

In the southern hemisphere, the phenomenon is also referred to as the 'Wolf Moon' or the 'Ice Moon.'

The Celtics, meanwhile, referred to it as the Moon of Claiming.

According to some theories, supermoons can affect your emotions and health, with early folklore saying they also increased sleep problems and gave people seizures.

Those in Poland who miss the chance to admire this weekend’s supermoon will get five more chances to see the moon at its fullest on August 19, September 18, October 17, November 15, and December 15.
