Poland’s defense minister said on Thursday that the investigation into the alleged export of Polish pumps to Iran has been ongoing since 2022, while the company manufacturing them has pledged cooperation with the prosecutor’s office.
Media reports suggest that diesel pumps sold by WSK Poznań were used in Iranian combat drones.
Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz revealed that an investigation into WSK Poznań began in 2022 and added that “the investigation has been open for several months now,” with charges filed against the company's former management.
“Certainly all contracts of this sort must be monitored, especially if they are from countries that support Russia […], and Iran is one of those countries,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said.
In response, WSK Poznań’s current management has pledged full cooperation with the investigation and is taking steps to clarify the situation, the company’s board announced.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the board of WSK Poznań confirmed that the National Prosecutor's Office and the Internal Security Agency are investigating the export of parts produced by the company to Iran.
Mikołaj Hauke, a board member of WSK Poznań, said in a statement on the company’s website that WSK Poznań has implemented strict internal control procedures for potential buyers, meticulously verifying each contractor and the intended use of the ordered goods, as well as analyzing applicable sanctions at the time.
“For exports outside the EU market, WSK Poznań Sp. z o.o. requires potential customers to submit an end-user declaration,” Hauke noted.
He also clarified that WSK Poznań manufactures injection pumps for diesel engines used in agricultural tractors. “These pumps are not suitable for powering aircraft engines due to their weight, nor for working with fuels other than diesel, particularly aviation fuel,” he added.
According to reports by private broadcaster Radio Zet, pumps manufactured by the Poznań-based company, owned by the Industrial Development Agency, were sold to Iran Motorsazan Company, a producer of agricultural tractors. These fuel pumps were subsequently forwarded to Iranian factories producing military drones, which Russia then purchased.
