Russia and Ukraine exchanged 95 prisoners of war each on Wednesday, the two countries said.

The United Arab Emirates acted as an intermediary in the swap.
In a statement, the Russian defense ministry said that released servicemen would be flown to Moscow by military transport aircraft “for treatment and rehabilitation in medical facilities” run by the ministry.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the prisoners who were returned to his country included soldiers, National Guard personnel and border guards.

“No matter how difficult it is, we are looking for everyone who might be in captivity. We must bring everyone back,” he wrote on the Telegram social media platform.

“I am grateful to our team involved in the exchanges and to the United Arab Emirates for mediating this release,” he added.

The swap was the 54th prisoner exchange since the start of Russia’s full-scale military invasion in February 2022, according to the Ukrainian Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

It added that a total of 3,405 people have been returned to Ukraine from captivity.
