Warsaw’s Modlin Airport plans to expand so it can handle 7 to 8 million passengers a year by 2029.

“The source of financing for the planned investments will be long-term bank loans,” the company managing the airport said in an annual report.

The report also said that ongoing renovation work at Chopin Airport, Warsaw’s main such facility, would cause temporary operational restrictions there.

The natural airport to fill the gap, especially in terms of charter and low-cost flights, is Modlin, the report added.

Modlin Airport made a gross profit of €3.9 million in 2023, while net profit was 3.4 million euros.

According to the report, the financial plan of the airport company for 2024, approved in February by an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders, anticipates a gross profit of €2.6 million this year.

Modlin Airport is located 37 km from the center of Warsaw. It handles, among other things, regular Ryanair flights.

From January to the end of May, the airport served 1.18 million passengers.
