A man shot two individuals to death before killing himself in a tragic incident in Lautlingen, a village in the German state of Baden-Württemberg, on Sunday.

According to the German newspaper Bild, emergency services, notified about the shooting, rushed to a single-family home in a quiet residential area on the edge of a forest and found corpses and injured people inside and outside the property.

The confirmed victims are two men, including the attacker, and a woman. There are conflicting reports regarding the exact number of his victims.

Local law enforcement confirmed that several other individuals sustained severe injuries during the assault, as initially reported by Bild.

Police investigators are presuming that the crime was committed within the family. There are currently two rescue helicopters and about one hundred emergency services encircling the Lautlingen area.

The authorities said that the wider public was not under any ongoing risk.

According to information from Südwestrundfunk, a local public broadcaster, several firearms were registered to the suspected perpetrator.

Media sources have indicated that the perpetrator may have had a background as a hunter.
