As continental qualifiers begin and the new 2024/25 season begins, Poland has moved up three places in the UEFA club coefficients (or ranking), despite having fewer points than last season.

At the end of the 23/24 season, Poland was ranked 21st with 25,375 points. However, the current output of Polish clubs is 23,500 points, which sees the country conversely move into 18th place. The seemingly counterintuitive rise owes to the system by which federations are ranked.

The club coefficients takes the last five seasons into account, so before the inception of 24/25 the results from 19/20, which were particularly poor for Polish clubs, were removed.

Polish clubs only notched up 2,125 points in 19/20. For comparison they collectively managed 6,875 points the previous season.
Countries, for which the 19/20 season was much more successful, lost more points than Poland and, as a result, they dropped. The upshot of the table update sees Poland overtake Ukraine, Serbia and Croatia.

Why is it significant?

The club coefficients are based on the results of clubs competing in the five previous seasons of the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League.

The rankings are significant because it determines the seeding of each club in relevant UEFA competition draws. Polish clubs have consistently been low seeded in recent seasons, increasing the likelihood of facing tougher opposition in the qualification rounds of three continental tournaments.

Thanks to decent results in the last two seasons in Europe, the Polish champions, Jagiellonia Białystok will start the Champions League qualifiers from the second round, not the first.

Wisła Kraków, were the first Polish club to kick a ball in anger this season, when the second division surprise Polish cup winners defeated KF Llapi 2-0 on Thursday evening in the 1st round of the Europa League qualifiers. This earnt Poland 0.250 points for the coefficients.

Jagiellonia Białystok will face the winners of FK Paneveżys-HJK Helsinki on July 23 or 24. Poland's other continental representatives are last season's runners up Śląsk Wrocław, third placed Legia Warsaw and the aforementioned Wisła Kraków.

The Śląsk face FC Riga and Legia have Carenfarton Town FC or Crusaders FC in the 2nd round of the Europa Conference League qualifiers, which will take place on July 25.
