A Moscow court has ordered the arrest of the late Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny’s widow after accusing her of being part of an “extremist” group.
The court ordered that Yulia Navalnaya, who lives outside of Russia, be arrested in absentia for two months.
The decision means that if she sets foot in the country she will face certain arrest.
Writing on X on Tuesday, the 47-year-old told her followers to ignore the court order and focus on batting against Russian President Vladimir Putin.
She posted: “When you write about this, please don't forget to write the main thing: Vladimir Putin is a murderer and a war criminal.
“His place is in prison, and not somewhere in The Hague, in a cozy cell with a TV, but in Russia - in the same colony and the same 2-by-3-meter cell in which he killed Alexei.”
She added: “We will take on board everything that can be useful to fight Putin, to fight for the beautiful Russia of the future.”
Since her husband’s death at an Arctic penal colony in February, Navalnaya has met senior Western leaders, including U.S. President Joe Biden in San Francisco and was last week named chair of the U.S.-based nonprofit group Human Rights Foundation.
Following the appointment she said she would use the position to continue her husband’s struggle against Putin.
