Hubert Hurkacz was forced to say goodbye to Wimbledon after forfeiting his match against Frenchman Arthur Fils on Thursday when he picked up an injury and could not continue.

The injury occurred during a tie-break in the fourth set. The Pole threw himself towards the net and won the point for 8:7, but he could not get up.

After almost a nine-minute medical break, Hurkacz was forced to forfeit the match.

“After I suffered a knee injury at Wimbledon, the first medical examinations took place. I will take some time to recover and carry out further medical tests at home in Poland,” Hurkacz wrote on social media.

“My team and I will provide more information as soon as possible. Thank you to everyone for the support,” he added. The only remaining Pole in the singles tournament at Wimbledon is the world number one women’s player, Iga Świątek, who made it to the third round on Thursday.

She will face Yulia Putintseva, the Kazakhstani world number 27. Rain has suspended play on several occasions and consequently a time is yet to be fixed for the match.
